Responding to the Earthquake

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, “the Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.”

Lamentations 3:22-24

Flying back into a crisis

The day after we arrived home from a strategic and Holy Spirit filled ministry time in Tanzania, our phones started lighting up with the tragic news of 2 devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, leaving over 50,000 people dead.

As you know, we are privileged to oversee a large team of ACOP global workers in that region.  All checked in safe but 6 were within an hour of the devastation.

Quickly, we began to work with the team on the ground to plan a rapid response and together, we sent out appeals for prayer and emergency assistance.  To date, $155,000 has graciously been donated to help purchase food, water, medical supplies, clothing, blankets, tents, diapers, formula, toys, power banks, toiletry items and other essentials for life.

A few of our GH workers have gone into the earthquake zone as first responders to help get people out on buses, take in needed supplies and serve hot food.  Others are caring for refugee families in their homes. Some are preparing apartments for refugees to live in while others are purchasing/distributing supplies and buying tents for refugees to live in. The opportunities, through this horrific tragedy, to show Christ’s love, are limitless.

Clearly, the Lord is highlighting this region of the world. Can we ask you to pray with us for His mercy and help for these nations and in this great time of sorrow and suffering that the eyes of their hearts would see Jesus – the only one in whom their help can truly come from.

Challenges and Opportunities

In the midst of this, 3 of our newly deployed workers have been denied visas to be in Turkey.  There are 6 more new workers who are also applying to be there. We invite you to pray with us that their visas will be granted and if they are denied, that clear direction will come if the Lord is directing us to set up another base in the Middle East that could be launched with these 9 new workers.

Lord willing, we will be ministering in the Middle East in September and trust we will have a clearer picture on how the Lord is leading to establish new beachheads there.

In the next couple of months, we’ll update you on what the Lord is doing in Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, and the East Africa islands.  Thank you for praying for us during these trips.  We can confidently say that the Lord has done more than we could ask or imagine!  He is faithful!

Thank you for sending us with your love, prayer and support!  May the Lord bless you for your faithfulness!
