It was our intention to be in East Africa, Lord willing, in February but something was just not right in the spirit. My finger was literally on the button to press purchase on the tickets and I just couldn’t do it. Looking back, it’s remarkable to see the leading of the Holy Spirit to delay that trip. We couldn’t have imagined that I would be with my sisters and mom in Saskatchewan for the final days of my dad’s life at the end of January.
My (Brenda’s) dad went to be with the Lord on January 29. Those final days were difficult but precious as we spent time in prayer, reading scripture, worshipping and visiting around dad’s hospital bed. Growing up, we did so much singing with dad that it seemed fitting that his final days included much worship. I am thankful for the opportunity to have grown up in a godly home and for parents who instilled in me the importance of serving Jesus as the number one priority in my life. Missions was a big priority in our home and that has carried down the generations. My parents supported and encouraged me to go on mission to Papua New Guinea, for the summer, when I was just 16 years old. That’s a long time ago!
God is good in the good times and He is still good in challenging times as He graces us with an even sweeter presence, bringing us strength, comfort and peace that is only from Him.
Next week, we will be journeying to Mexico to see ACOP global workers Gerald and Ruth Nygren and Maria Elena Livingstone. Maria Elena pastors in Puebla and Gerald and Ruth are involved in training Mexican missionaries for ministry and to go to the unreached. We are so excited to see these “heroes of the faith” and meet those they are working with. The Nygren’s were our teachers in Bible College many years ago and we had the opportunity to visit them in Guatemala in the 90’s.
Would you pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit as we prepare to go and minister there? The Lord is already at work there and our heart’s desire is to be obedient to the Lord and to be sensitive to what He has already orchestrated for our time there.
Psalm 119:90 says “Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created”.
Thank you for your faithful prayer and support.
